Subject: The Three Paid Traffic Types

Last updated May 2026 · By Social Stardom

Welcome to our third lesson on paid traffic. In our last lesson, we took a look at mindset. Now you know its all about building a long-term business, not quick profits. Today, youre going to learn about the three types of paid traffic, and how to most effectively use each type.

Paid traffic is definitely a different animal than free traffic. With free traffic, youre not really risking anything. You have leeway to screw up a little, and the only thing you have to lose it that traffic. But at least you didnt pay cold, hard cash for it, right?

So we separate paid traffic into three basic groups. I refer to these groups as strangers, friends, and fans.

Strangers are people who have never met you or even heard of you. They dont trust you, and are not likely to buy anything because of that. This is one of the biggest reasons people fail with paid traffic. They try selling products to people who dont know them from Adam.

Friends are people who know you, and trust you somewhat, but they havent yet evolved to the stage where theyd do just about anything for you. Friends will buy stuff from you, but arent as likely to buy big-ticket items.

Fans are people who know you well. They trust you pretty much implicitly. They have bought from you before, and are very likely to again. Theyre so passionate that they tell others about you, and they like and share your posts on social media.

Yes, even fans can be targeted with paid traffic, and should be. Why? After all, if theyre already fans, you can just market to them for free. And thats true. But the thing you have to keep in mind is that people can and do miss important messages all the time. Sometimes emails go to the spam box or get accidentally overlooked or deleted. Quite often, Facebook posts arent seen by the people who really want to see them, either because theyre overlooked or because Facebook doesnt deliver the post to them.

Remember, Facebook marketing has changed a lot. The average post reaches only a tiny fraction of a pages fans, so even though your fans may want to see your messages, they dont always get to.

As you can probably guess, you cant market the same way to each group of people. Some people just try selling, selling, selling to each group, but that just leads to wasted money.

In our final few lessons, youre going to learn the best ways to market to these three groups of people, and how to get the most profit for the money you spend.

See you soon!

Frequently Asked Questions

Which social media platform is best for B2B brands in India?

LinkedIn is by far the most effective B2B social media channel for lead generation and brand authority. However, YouTube and high-value Instagram content are also growing in importance for building brand trust.

How often should our business post on social media?

Consistency is more important than pure volume. We recommend posting 3 to 4 times a week with high-value, original creatives and video content, rather than daily spamming without a strategic funnel.

Can we get direct leads from social media?

Yes. By combining engaging organic content with targeted lead magnet offers (like PDF playbooks, free webinars, or diagnostic audits), you can turn passive scrollers into high-intent inbound leads for Social Stardom.
